Prevention and Protection
Through a partnership with Agency Chiefs Child and Family Services, Whitecap Dakota First Nation provides prevention and protection services to all WDFN Members. With a strong focus on supporting families, staff members implement programs and initiatives to ensure the overall health and wellbeing of children in our community.
Whitecap Dakota First Nation offers a Family Support Program to provide the following:
- One-on-one support
- Group support
- Community Resources
- Parenting Classes
- Baby Sitting Courses
Prevention |
Under family support agreements with Agency Chiefs and parents/guardians' available resources will be delivered and implemented for families involved. The support agreement will be in place for 1 month to 6 months in duration. Children will remain in their homes with the parents and with resources coming into the home to ensure that the family remains secure, safe and stable. The support agreement can be renewed prior to the termination date. The families are not penalized for this agreement. |
Protection |
The protection services are more intrusive with the family unit. Children are removed either voluntarily or through apprehensions and placed in an alternate placement commonly known as foster care. The Agency Chiefs Child and Family Services will provide foster care placement with extended family members to ensure that the children remain in their own environment and to continue with their culture. All foster homes will be assessed and licensed according to provincial standards. |
