JORDAN'S PRINCIPLE SERVICES
Jordan's Principle is a child-first and needs-based principle used in Canada to ensure that First Nations children (under the age of majority; 0 – 18) living on and off reserve have equitable access to all government funded public services.
Jordan's Principle provides necessary funding for any services, products or supports that deal with physical health, mental health, social, educational or any other need that directly affects the child's wellbeing. In addition, the Jordan's Principle not only aids with individual requests but also group requests (group homes, schools, communities, etc.).
The aim of Jordan's Principle is to meet the unmet needs of all First Nations children and achieve equal outcomes as all the children in Canada. Furthermore, Jordan's Principle seeks to attain a level of care that is culturally appropriate and creates safeguards in the best interest of the child. There are many requests of services/products/supports that are provided for all First Nations children. Each request for a need is evaluated and decided on a case-by-case basis.
The Jordan's Principle Coordinator will provide guidance with the application process, navigation of language, education of Jordan's Principle standards, access for immediate resources and provide support through the application and funding process.
